Here’s what caught our attention this week.

Another weekend is here, and if you’re still deciding what to watch, we’ve got a few ideas. This week’s list includes a new Spider-Man movie, a crime drama, a Netflix thriller, a teen series, and a few returning titles.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day

Spider-Man is back in theaters. In Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland returns as Peter Parker, four years after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Peter is now living on his own after the world forgot who he was. He’s focused on fighting crime, but things take another turn when a new threat appears in New York.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi, is behind the movie. Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal also join Holland in the cast.

Where to watch: Exclusively in theaters.

Furious

Furious follows FBI agent Alice Black, played by Emmy Rossum, as she tries to catch a female serial killer played by Lola Petticrew.

The eight-episode crime drama is loosely based on the 1987 film Black Widow. As Alice gets closer to the killer, the investigation starts to raise questions about justice and revenge. Scoot McNairy, Quincy Tyler Bernstine, and Jake Lacy also star.

The series premiered last week, so there’s still time to catch up before the August 31 finale. It also marks Rossum’s return to television in a leading role after Shameless.

Where to watch: Streaming on Hulu.

The Last House

A family finds itself trapped inside their Seattle home when a strange substance seals the house during a powerful storm.

Things get worse when they discover that other homes in the neighborhood have been sealed too. What follows is a fight to understand what has happened and how they can get out.

Greta Lee and Wagner Moura lead the cast, with Louis Leterrier, the director of Fast X, behind the camera. The film mixes science fiction, horror, and survival thriller elements.

Where to watch: Streaming on Netflix.

Sterling Point

Seventeen-year-old Annie inherits an island in Canada from her late grandfather and travels there, only to discover that her family has been keeping some big secrets from her. Among them is the existence of a long-lost sister named Ramona.

Created by Megan Park, Sterling Point is an eight-episode teen drama about family, relationships, and the things that can come out when people start asking questions.

If you enjoyed The Summer I Turned Pretty, this is one to check out.

Where to watch: Streaming on Prime Video.

My Life with the Walter Boys — Season 3

Jackie Howard is back in Colorado, and her relationship with Alex and Cole is still far from simple.

Season 3 picks up the love triangle while Jackie continues adjusting to life with the Walter family. Netflix has already renewed the series for a fourth season, so there’s more of this story on the way.

Where to watch: Streaming on Netflix.

Sugar — Season 2

The second season of Sugar has now come to an end. If you’ve been waiting to catch up, all the episodes are now available on Apple TV+.

Colin Farrell returns as private investigator John Sugar, who is once again pulled into a mysterious case in Los Angeles. The series starts as a missing-person investigation but gradually reveals that there is much more going on than it first appears.

Where to watch: Streaming on Apple TV+.

One Night Only

In One Night Only, people living in a highly controlled version of the United States are allowed just one night a year to experience romantic and sexual freedom.
Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner play two strangers who meet during that one night and end up on a chaotic journey across New York City.

The romantic comedy is directed by Will Gluck, who previously made Easy A and Anyone But You. Glen Powell, Sydney Sweeney, Molly Ringwald, and LeVar Burton also appear.

Where to watch: Now playing in theaters.

That’s all for this week’s watchlist. We’ll be back next week with more movies and shows to add to your list.
