The 98th Academy Awards celebrated a night of historic wins, fierce competition, and record-breaking achievements. One Battle After Another emerged as the biggest winner of the night, taking home six Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay, marking Paul Thomas Anderson’s first-ever Academy Awards.

Warner Bros. enjoyed a particularly strong night, with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners also claiming four Oscars, including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan, as well as awards for Best Original Screenplay, Best Original Score (Ludwig Göransson), and Best Cinematography, where Autumn Durald Arkapaw became the first woman to ever win the award. Meanwhile, Frankenstein nabbed three awards in key technical categories.

In addition to the competitive wins, the ceremony included historic firsts and memorable performances. The Academy introduced a new category, Best Casting, awarded for the first time since Best Animated Feature was added in 2002. The night also featured live musical performances of two nominated songs, including the K-pop track “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters, which became the first K-pop song to win an Oscar.
